Good day everyone!
Extremely cold weather is forecast to keep a grip on most of the country during the next 72 – 96 hours (3 – 5 days), with minimum temperatures modifying somewhat by day 5, then dipping down once again by day 6.
The current Rex Block over the west, evolves into an Omega Block by 48 hours into the forecast period, to which both scenarios keep the cold, Arctic air pretty much locked into the same areas. The Omega Block finally nudges east somewhat, helping to modify night time minimum temperatures, before another shot comes in. The following maps from the 06Z run of the GFS show the pattern and associated minimum temperatures. Keep in mind, wind chill factors will be much lower than the projected minimum temperatures shown in the forecast station interpolated plots.
